Acids produce protons or the H+ ion while bases accept protons or generate OH-. Alternatively, acids may be viewed as electron pair acceptors and bases as electron pair donors. Here are ways of defining acids and bases, acids and bases and sample calculations.

PH Facts and Calculations

pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion (H+) concentration in an aqueous solution. Understanding pH can help you predict the properties of a solution, including the reactions it will complete. A pH of 7 is considered neutral pH. Lower pH values indication acidic solutions while higher pH values are assigned to alkaline or basic solutions.
